Cosin Solar's 350MW tower-type concentrated solar power (CSP) project, the world's largest single-unit CSP facility, officially broke ground in Golmud City, northwest China's Qinghai Province, on Thursday.
With a total investment of about 5.44 billion yuan (about $763 million), the solar plant will utilize China's homegrown tower-based molten salt thermal energy storage technology.
The facility will feature three solar power receiver towers feeding heat to a single 350MW steam turbine, enabling it to generate stable electricity 24 hours a day.
The project is scheduled to achieve full grid connection by the end of September 2027. Once completed, it is expected to generate around 960 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.
Cosin Solar is a leading Chinese company in concentrated solar power technology, particularly in advanced molten salt tower systems.
