The Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL) celebrated the seventh anniversary of its operation in September this year. Over the past seven years, the XRL has played an important role as a key regional transportation hub, strengthening connectivity between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Operating more than 100 pairs of trains daily, that connect the city with 96 mainland stations, the Hong Kong section of XRL served over 3.2 million passenger trips in August this year – a new monthly record since its launch, according to railway operator MRT Corporation. The high-speed rail line has also introduced several passenger-friendly measures – such as flexible ticket-changing services, special discount products and customized train schedules for tourism – to better meet the demands of travelers.
