Tennis returned to Saudi Arabia with the Six Kings Slam, an exhibition event in Riyadh that offered the richest prize in the sport — a staggering $6 million. Italy's Jannik Sinner defeated Spain's Carlos Alcaraz for the second consecutive year to claim the title.
Alcaraz beat Sinner to win the US Open last month and reclaim the World No. 1 ranking. While the Riyadh event did not offer ranking points, plenty of money and pride were at stake.
All six players (Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Sinner and Alcaraz) were guaranteed $1.5 million for participating in the event, with the winner taking home a total of $6 million.
The indoor court favored Sinner's quick, aggressive style. The Italian defeated Alcaraz in straight sets: 6-2, 6-4.
The 24-year-old pocketed the biggest payday in tennis history, and finally halting his losing streak against his great rival, gained a welcome confidence boost ahead of next month's ATP Finals in Turin.
