China Media Group (CMG), the only media outlet participating in 8K signal production for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, sent its first load of broadcasting equipment to Italy on Monday.
A total of 1,026 items were packed into 18 box trucks at CMG's headquarters in Beijing. The pieces will first travel to the Port of Meishan in Ningbo, before heading to Italy in 10 containers at the end of October.
Two more major shipments will set off for the host country later, along with additional deliveries by air and train.
CMG will, for the first time in history, be responsible for the production of 4K ultra high-definition international signal for figure skating and short track speed skating events at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Much of the broadcasting equipment will first be used at China's 15th National Games in November, before moving on to Italy.
"CMG will send two Chinese Red UHD broadcasting vehicles and one cube UHD broadcasting system, in addition to a series of cutting-edge special pieces of equipment to Italy to provide 4K and 8K UHD equipment support and technical services to the broadcasting of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2026 Winter Olympics, as well as figure skating and short track speed skating events," said Wang Dagang, CMG Broadcasting Technical Runner for 2026 Winter Olympics.
"It will be the first time for CMG and home-made technical systems to play main roles in the production of standard international signal of the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies," he added. "It will break the monopoly of European and American technologies, and display the solid development of Chinese technologies, and their growing role on the international stage."
