The 12th Wuzhen Theater Festival has once again transformed the picturesque water town of Wuzhen in Zhejiang Province into a vibrant stage where stories from around the world come alive. The festival draws theater artists, performers, and art lovers together to celebrate creativity and cross-cultural exchange.
Among the highlights is "Anthropolis–Marathon," a production by Germany's Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg that interlaces five Greek myths. The Wuzhen staging marks the play's first performance outside Hamburg and brings together German and Chinese artists, igniting fresh artistic dialogue between Eastern and Western theater traditions.
Running from October 16 to 26, the festival features 25 plays from 10 countries and regions. In addition, 18 plays will compete in the Emerging Theatre Artists' Competition. The festival will also host dialogue events, theater workshops, reading sessions, and outdoor carnivals.
Since its debut in 2013, the Wuzhen Theater Festival has grown into a dynamic platform for young international theater practitioners to showcase their creativity and exchange ideas. The festival has also boosted local tourism, filling guesthouses and restaurants and contributing significantly to the town's cultural and economic vitality.
