Opposing Militarism

At the easternmost edge of Arashiyama Park in Kyoto, Japan, stands a stone monument. Erected in 1968, it bears the inscription: "Never again shall Japan and China go to war".The choice of words has been debated for decades, with many people arguing that it should really read: "Japan should never invade again". However, the underlying message is clear; in the pursuit of peace, we must reflect on the past and understand the causes of war.

Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was achieved by the entire Chinese nation, including people in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
