YF-75DB engine test marks milestone for Long March 8A rocket

A step closer to victory! The YF-75DB hydrogen-oxygen engine for China's Long March 8A carrier rocket has successfully completed its certification test.

The whole process ran from September 22 to October 18. A total of nine ignitions were carried out during four test runs, covering various operating conditions and comprehensively validating the engine's working performance under complex conditions, structural reliability and the operational adaptability of its components. It means this type of engine has now entered the application and development stage.

Engineers have made improvements and upgrades to the engine. Previously generally capable of only two ignitions, the YF-75DB hydrogen-oxygen engine adopts a torch ignition method, capable of multiple ignitions.

This allows the upper stage to actively and rapidly deorbit after the primary mission concludes, effectively reducing space debris. This engine model will be integrated with the Long March 8A rocket next year, further enhancing the rocket's market competitiveness.
