China has launched the world's largest all-electric river cargo ship – also the first 10,000-deadweight-tonne all-electric vessel – marking a significant step forward in the nation's push for green and intelligent shipping.
Named Gezhouba, the vessel stretches nearly 130 meters long and can carry over 13,000 tonnes of cargo. It is powered by 12 lithium battery units with a total capacity of 24,000 kWh.
Each year, the vessel is expected to save about 617 tonnes of fuel and reduce 2,052 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
