China's first satellite dedicated to ocean salinity detection has passed all in-orbit tests, clearing the way for long-term use. It marks a major breakthrough for improving our understanding of how climate change impacts the marine environment.

The scientific research satellite, known as the Ocean-4 01, is designed to gather and send back high-precision data on global ocean salinity levels. The information will support research in marine environment protection, disaster prevention and mitigation, and global climate change, offering strong technical backing for China's endeavor to build itself into a maritime power. Launched on November 14, 2024, the satellite comes under China's national civil space infrastructure program.
