According to the first-phase ceasefire agreement for Gaza, Hamas released a total of 20 Israeli detainees in two batches on October 13. In return, Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, and gradually transferred hundreds of the bodies of deceased Palestinian detainees.
CGTN Stringer interviewed Ramez Issam Abu Azab, a Palestinian prisoner recently released, who shared his experience of being detained by Israel for 19 months. He described the conditions of his detention as extremely harsh, with limited water and food, making life very difficult. Now that he has been released, he hopes that Gaza's universities can be rebuilt and that he can return to school, looking forward to a better future.
