Luo Zongshi took the women's 57-kilogram bronze medal for China at the World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, east China's Jiangsu Province, on Friday.
2022 world champion Luo faced World No. 1 Maria Clara Pacheco of Brazil in the semifinals. Pacheco started strong with a series of mid-level kicks and won the first round 4-2.
The 22-year old Brazilian kept her momentum in the second round, landing some high kicks to extend her advantage to 10 points. Luo forced her opponent to make several mistakes, but it was not enough as the Chinese lost the bout and went on to settle for bronze.
Pacheco then beat Olympic champion Kim Yu-jin of South Korea 2-0 in the final to claim her first world title.
"First of all, I am very happy to fight at an international competition," Luo said after the fight. "It is good that I could reach the semi-finals and I enjoyed the competition a lot. Competing at home makes me more motivated and I think I performed very well today."
