Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Monday that the current China-EU relationship presents both opportunities and challenges for development, and both sides should stay on the right track in building their relations, strengthen the foundation of political mutual trust, and further implement their shared agreement.

Li made the remarks while meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa on the sidelines of the leaders' meetings on East Asian cooperation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He said China is ready to collaborate with the European Union (EU) to expand the cooperation scope, promote balanced and optimized development of China-EU trade, increase mutual openness, and create new growth opportunities in green and digital sectors, as well as in scientific and technological innovation, industrial and supply chains, to achieve high-level mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.

He added that, based on equality and respect, China is willing to promote solutions to issues in China-EU economic and trade cooperation through dialogue and consultation, as well as mutual understanding and accommodation.

Li expressed hope that the EU would create a fair, equitable, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies in Europe, and that EU institutions would actively support the development of China-EU relations.

Costa said that the EU is willing to sustain high-level exchanges with China, strengthen dialogue and communication across various sectors and levels, boost mutual trust, properly address each other's concerns, and promote practical cooperation.

Costa said the EU is prepared to enhance communication and coordination with China, uphold multilateralism, and work together to address global challenges such as climate change.
