A dialogue on global governance and shared prosperity in the Asia-Pacific was recently held in Beijing, bringing together officials and experts from across the region in the run-up to the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju.

China Media Group (CMG) President Shen Haixiong; Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Ren Hongbin; Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz; Chilean lawmaker Ruben Oyarzo; and Yoon Dong-sup, president of Yonsei University, were among those attending the event.

In his address, Shen said that at a crucial moment when global governance faces headwinds and must either advance or fall back, China upholds the Eastern wisdom of working together for the common good.

China actively promotes the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, joining hands with Asia-Pacific economies to meet challenges head-on and pursue innovation, Shen said, adding that together, they have become a driving force behind economic globalization and multipolarity, creating the remarkable Asia-Pacific miracle.

CMG stands ready to work hand in hand with partners across the Asia-Pacific to deepen cooperation, tell stories of partnership, expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and contribute wisdom and strength to advancing global governance, he said.

Ren noted that today, the interests of all countries are deeply intertwined and their destinies closely linked. He said expanding common interests must be safeguarded through ever-improving global governance, while solidarity, cooperation, and win-win outcomes remain the only right path forward.

Zafrul said rules, trust, and inclusiveness are the fundamental prerequisites for achieving shared and sustainable development.

Under a just and equitable order, all countries, regardless of size, can treat one another as equals, respect each other and resolve differences peacefully, he added.

Oyarzo said Chile is ready to shoulder the responsibilities of the times together with all parties and work jointly to advance development in the Asia-Pacific. He added that Chile highly values the efforts made by APEC member economies in building bridges of understanding and trust, and in promoting shared development across the region.

Yoon emphasized that in the face of common challenges such as climate change, technological innovation, population aging, and economic uncertainty, strengthening mutual trust and international cooperation is especially important. He noted that this dialogue brings together leaders and experts from various fields to share insights and collectively envision the future, playing a key role in building consensus.

A global poll by CGTN unveiled during the event showed that 83.3 percent of respondents hold a positive view of APEC's role as a key platform for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific, while 83.4 percent highly recognize China's role and contributions in advancing APEC's sustainable development agenda.
