The U.S. session of the "Innovation, Openness, and Shared Development" Global Dialogue, co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chinese Embassy in the U.S., was held in Washington, D.C., last Friday.
Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and president of CMG, delivered a video address. Xie Feng, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S., gave the keynote speech. Dr. Robert Kuhn, chairman of the Kuhn Foundation, and Dr. Denis Simon, chairman of the Alliance of Global Talent Organizations, also spoke at the event.
Nearly 100 guests—including international affairs experts, scholars, and youth representatives from both China and the U.S.—participated in in-depth discussions on topics such as how China's pursuit of technological self-reliance fuels global innovation, how the country continues to expand high-level opening-up, and how it shares development opportunities with the world for mutual benefit.
The event also officially launched the "Innovation, Openness, and Shared Development" Global Dialogue series.

Shen Haixiong stated that the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) just wrapped up in Beijing, marking a new milestone in China's development in the new era.
The session outlined top-level designs and strategic plans for key priorities, including building a modern industrial system with advanced manufacturing as its foundation, boosting high-level technological self-reliance and strength, improving the national innovation system, developing a high-standard socialist market economy, ensuring high-quality and sustainable growth, and encouraging the cultural creativity of the Chinese nation.
He emphasized that the plenary session once again delivered a clear message to the world: China will continue to expand high-level opening-up and create new opportunities for win-win cooperation. Despite global uncertainties, China, dedicated to openness, innovation, and shared development, will keep inspiring confidence and vitality worldwide.
Shen stated that CMG will collaborate with international partners to develop a joint global platform, carry out the four international initiatives, and share China's governance vision, the prospects of Chinese modernization, and the innovative spirit of the new era with the world.
"We look forward to joining hands with all of you to pursue our shared dreams, build a community with a shared future for mankind, and create a better future for all," he said.

Ambassador Xie Feng said the recent fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC approved recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan, outlining major objectives for economic and social development over the next five years.
Xie observed that over the next five years, China's growth momentum will accelerate, innovation capacity will grow, opening-up will deepen, people's livelihoods will improve, and the route toward green development will expand.
Xie emphasized that the ongoing development and implementation of Five-Year Plans is a key feature of the CPC's governance and a significant institutional strength of socialism with Chinese characteristics. China's macroeconomic management and policy approach are consistent and forward-looking. Each Five-Year Plan offers a roadmap that promotes steady advancement and supports global certainty and stability, he added.

Robert Kuhn said the fourth plenary session created an ambitious plan for China's next five years. He mentioned that this period is not only key to advancing Chinese modernization but will also greatly impact global development.
He noted that the session's development goals align closely with China's Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative, reflecting how Chinese modernization is deeply integrated with global progress. He emphasized that he looks forward to witnessing China's ongoing historic achievements and to seeing China deepen pragmatic and open cooperation with the world for the benefit of all humanity.
Denis Simon, chairman of the Alliance of Global Talent Organizations. /CMG
Denis Simon emphasized that as two major nations crucial to global progress, the U.S. and China hold a special responsibility to collaborate. In an era of rapid technological advances, increasing climate issues, and geopolitical tensions, the shared goal between China and the U.S. is to make sure innovation benefits humanity rather than dividing it.
Simon observed that China's modernization demonstrates that modernization is not about Westernization or isolationism, but instead an approach that combines national growth with global responsibility.
He also pointed out that no country can address major challenges alone. Issues like climate change, food security, artificial intelligence (AI) governance, and global health demand collective action and teamwork, and U.S.-China cooperation is crucial. A non-zero-sum approach could change bilateral relations, turning tensions into trust and competition into collaborative progress.

Youth representatives from the University of Maryland, American University, and Johns Hopkins University spoke during the dialogue session, highly praising the remarkable progress of Chinese modernization they observed during their visits to China. They expressed strong interest in China's cutting-edge technological advances and said they look forward to working with Chinese peers through joint research, technology exchanges, and innovation cooperation to contribute to global sustainable development.
During the event, attendees watched trailers for CMG's documentary "The Road to Chinese Modernization" and a series of short videos showcasing China's accomplishments in areas like AI and electric vehicles. Participants agreed that China plays a key leadership role in global scientific and technological innovation, and that its peaceful and steady growth will continue to positively impact human progress and global governance.
The "Innovation, Openness, and Shared Development" Global Dialogue series will soon be held in several other countries, including Hungary, South Africa, Russia, Bahrain, Chile, Sri Lanka, Denmark, Uruguay, and Nigeria.
