During the upcoming meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump, the two heads of state will have in-depth communication on strategic and long-term issues concerning China-U.S. relations, as well as major issues of common concern, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked about a related query.

Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic leading role in China-U.S. relations, Guo noted.

China stands ready to work with the U.S. side to ensure the meeting produces positive outcomes, provides new guidance for the sound and steady development of China-U.S. relations, and injects new impetus into bilateral ties, he said.
