Bayern Munich came from a goal down to defeat Cologne 4-1 in the second round of the German Cup, with Harry Kane once again on fire. Vincent Kompany's side extended their perfect start to the season to 14 wins in all competitions, setting a record for a club from the big-five European leagues. The previous mark was held by AC Milan, who achieved 13 consecutive wins in the 1992/93 campaign.
Cologne started strongly, with Isak Johannesson firing a powerful shot that Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig superbly saved.
The hosts broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Ragnar Ache headed in a corner, putting Bayern on the brink of elimination. The German giants have not won the tournament in the past five seasons.
Bayern responded quickly, with Luis Diaz leveling the match in the 36th minute by tapping in a rebound from Joshua Kimmich's shot. Replays suggested that the Colombian striker might have been offside, but VAR is not used in German Cup games.
Kane put Bayern ahead two minutes later, curling the ball into the top corner to make it 2-1.
Bayern had another opportunity to extend their lead in the 52nd minute. Kane sent Diaz clear, and he raced towards goal with only the goalkeeper to beat, but he surprisingly blasted the ball into the stands.
Kompany's men increased their lead in the 64th minute when Kimmich found Kane from a corner, giving the 32-year-old his 22nd goal in 14 matches this season.
Michael Olise sealed the 4-1 victory in the 72nd minute and Bayern advanced to the third round of the German Cup and extended their perfect record to 14 wins this season.
