At its international debut in Singapore, the popular Chinese musical "Nan Kong" received a standing ovation from the local audience. Based on the life story of Kong Zhu, the 53rd-generation descendant of Confucius, the musical tells the tale of how he gave up his noble title to promote Confucian culture in Quzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, as an ordinary resident. Blending traditional Confucian themes with modern stagecraft, the musical has been performed more than 140 times in over 40 Chinese cities.
