The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on the situation in Sudan on Thursday, expressing deep concern over the escalating violence in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, and surrounding areas. Following the meeting, the council issued a statement calling for an immediate halt to hostilities in the El Fasher region.
