Shanghai Port move within one point of fourth CSL title

Sports Scene

Shanghai Port moved within a single point of their thrid straight Chinese Super League title, beating Zhejiang FC 3–0 at home to maintain a two‑point lead over city rivals Shanghai Shenhua.

The breakthrough came in the 12th minute. Liu Ruofan's right‑wing cross caused panic in the box and Zhejiang defender Liu Haofan, attempting a sliding clearance, diverted the ball into his own net as goalkeeper Zhao Bo could only sit and shake his head. The match attracted a notable spectator: former Netherlands No. 1 Edwin van der Sar was in the stands to watch.

Just after the restart, Port doubled their advantage. Li Shuai's left‑sided delivery found Wang Shenchao on the right of the area and Wang met it with a thunderous strike, a genuine worldie that left the goalkeeper with no chance. Then, in the 72nd minute, Brazilian playmaker Mateus Vital bent a sublime free‑kick beyond Zhao Bo to make it 3–0.

That scoreline held to the end. With one match remaining, an away trip to Dalian Yingbo, a draw will be enough for Shanghai Port to claim a third consecutive league title and the club's fourth topflight crown.

Shanghai Shenhua shrugged off last season's late heartbreak and eked out a 1–0 home win over Shenzhen Peng City. The tone was set almost immediately: in the second minute Joao Teixeira swung in a cross from the flank and Andre Luis, lurking on the penalty spot, met it with a decisive header to put Shenhua ahead. That early sucker‑punch was all the home side needed.

Shenzhen tried to respond with quick breaks in the second half, but clearcut opportunities were scarce. Li Zhi dragged one narrowly wide, a rare sight of goal for the visitors. In the final moments Edu Garcia's free‑kick threatened a last‑gasp equaliser, only for Shenhua keeper Bao Yaxiong to parry it away.

The game finished 1–0. For Shenhua the math is simple and unforgiving: they must beat Tianjin Jinmen Tiger in the final round and hope Shanghai Port slip up if they are to steal the title.
