Jannik Sinner returned to world number one after winning the Paris Masters. The Italian defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6 in the final to add the title to his Australian Open and Wimbledon crowns from earlier in the year, and he heads to the ATP Finals in Turin at the top of the rankings.
Sinner had entered the tournament with a chance to replace Carlos Alcaraz at the top and the Spaniard suffered a shock defeat to Cameron Norrie in the round of 32.
Following a wobbly start, Auger-Aliassime steadied himself and matched Sinner from the baseline. However, the four-time Grand Slam champion still did enough to win the first set, 6-4.
Canada's Auger-Aliassime needed to win the match to clinch the eighth and final spot for the season-ending ATP Finals, and it showed in the way he asserted himself in the second set.
The two were separated in a tiebreak in the second set. It was Sinner who reached match point to wrap up his fifth 1000-level crown and return to World No. 1. The 24-year-old became the first player to win a Masters title without dropping a set since Alcaraz at Indian Wells in 2023, while also extending his indoor winning streak to 26 matches.
