Zhao Leji, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, met with participants of the Seminar for Representatives from Pacific Island Countries in Beijing on Tuesday.

Zhao stated that China's relations with Pacific island countries continue to develop well and emphasized that China has always been a trustworthy friend and reliable partner to these nations.

China is willing to collaborate with Pacific island nations to strengthen political trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, align the Belt and Road Initiative with the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, and implement the four major global initiatives, Zhao said.

He urged both sides to enhance communication across various levels and sectors among legislative bodies, and to deepen their sharing of experiences in governance, legislation, and supervision, ensuring legal guarantees for bilateral cooperation.

Representatives from the participating nations stated that Pacific island countries adhere to the one-China principle, support the four major global initiatives, and are willing to collaborate with China to build a community with a shared future for humanity.

They said that the legislative bodies of Pacific island countries are willing to strengthen exchange and cooperation with China's NPC to promote the development of bilateral relations.
