Typhoon Kalmaegi kills at least 26 in the Philippines

00:25

At least 26 people were killed when Typhoon Kalmaegi struck the Philippines, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on November 4. Torrential rains, powerful winds, and storm surges forced tens of thousands to flee their homes.

The OCD said the victims were either swept away by floodwaters, pinned by fallen trees, or electrocuted.

Kalmaegi has impacted nearly 60,000 people in the central and southern Philippines, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

On the same day, a military helicopter crashed on Mindanao island in the southern Philippines during a relief operation, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) said.
