Shanxi diver Li Yajie reclaimed the domestic crown in the women's 1m springboard in Guangdong, taking gold at China's 15th National Games with a triumphant total of 330.55 points on Wednesday.
The final saw 21 divers compete in a crowded field, with Li tipped as a clear favorite alongside Sichuan's Chen Jia, who had collected three straight wins over Olympic champion Chen Yiwen, including the 3m title at the World Cup, earlier this year.
Li, the reigning world champion and Asian Games winner in the event, simply outsplashed the hype. In the first four rounds, she posted scores above eight on each dive, sending her into the latter stages of the competition with a 33.90‑point cushion.
A minor flaw on her closing 405C dive did little to dent the outcome, as the 23‑year‑old held on to grab gold, while Shaanxi's Long Yiping snagged silver.
In the men's all‑around event, Shandong's Lian Junjie delivered the standout performance, claiming the title with 1,005.10 points. The contest, which required each of the 15 finalists to complete two full sets of dives (6 springboard and 6 platform for 12 overall), promised drama thanks to the presence of veteran Cao Yuan.
The 30‑year‑old Beijing representative, a past National Games winner and double Olympic champion, started strongly. But Cao began to falter in the third round, allowing Lian, who turned 25 on Monday, to seize the initiative. Lian's closing 109C, widely judged as near perfect, accounted for the highest single‑dive score of the session, clinching the title.
