Located in Guangzhou, the Chen Clan Academy, also known as the Chen Clan Temple, is a national-level protected heritage site and home to the Guangdong Museum of Folk Arts. Built between 1888 and 1894, it served as a shared clan temple funded by members of the Chen family from 72 counties across Guangdong Province.
As the largest and best-preserved traditional Lingnan ancestral hall, it is celebrated as the "gem of Lingnan architectural art." The complex exemplifies the region's decorative craftsmanship, featuring exquisite wood, brick and stone carvings, lime-clay sculptures, pottery, iron castings and paintings – each showcasing vivid themes, rich colors and masterful artistry.
Since its conversion into a museum in 1959, the site has housed an extensive collection of Guangdong folk artifacts, including pottery, embroidery and carvings. These works not only reflect the cultural traditions of the Lingnan region but also hold significant artistic and research value.
