In recent years, the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System has been deeply integrated into emerging fields such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence and the low-altitude economy. The 2025 China BeiDou Industry Development Index Report released on November 6 at the Second China Conference on Surveying, Mapping and Geospatial Information held in Deqing, east China's Zhejiang Province, presents the overall development of China's BeiDou industry in the form of an index.

According to the report, in 2025, China's comprehensive BeiDou industry index reached 1579 points with a 10.34 percent year-on-year increase. Compared with 2020, the development index of the BeiDou industry in terms of marketization, industrialization and internationalization has increased by more than 60 percent. Currently, the supply chain of BeiDou's basic products remains stable. Basic products such as chips, modules and antennas are continually upgraded and have achieved a mass-production scale of hundreds of millions.

With the breakthrough of BeiDou's high-precision positioning technology, the system has penetrated from traditional surveying and mapping fields to other areas such as natural disaster warning, intelligent transportation, precision agriculture, energy dispatching, hydrology and autonomous driving and has given rise to a number of unmanned and intelligent production operation models. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, local governments have seized opportunities and actively introduced policies to promote the large-scale application of BeiDou technology in strategic emerging industries such as intelligent connected vehicles, artificial intelligence, and geoinformation services, driving the high-quality development of the BeiDou industry.

The report further reveals that in the first half of 2025, the number of applications of BeiDou terminal equipment (excluding consumer electronics) in China has exceeded 33 million units, an increase of more than 6 million units at a rate of over 22 percent compared with the same period last year. The penetration rate of BeiDou's comprehensive application is about 90 percent. In 14 key industries, the number of applications of BeiDou terminal equipment has reached more than 30 million units/sets, with a year-on-year growth rate of more than 27 percent. In the mass-consumer field, the application of BeiDou is deepening and is gradually prioritized. In the first half of 2025, the domestic shipment of smartphones reached 130 million units, of which more than 98 percent are equipped with BeiDou positioning functions.

Yu Xiancheng, the president of the Global Navigation Satellite System and Location Based Services Association of China, emphasized that the BeiDou system is now integrated with emerging productive forces such as the low-altitude economy and artificial intelligence, which maximizes its strengths. The united force of BeiDou and other technologies such as satellites, the Internet and 6G, is creating a new pattern of spatio-temporal application that integrates communication, navigation and remote sensing from the air to the ground.
