China's Foreign Ministry on Monday urged Japan to immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs, after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi hinted at the possibility of military involvement in the Taiwan Strait.

The Japanese leader made "erroneous remarks" on China's Taiwan region in Japan's parliament, blatantly interfering in China's internal affairs and seriously violating the one-China principle, the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, as well as basic norms governing international relations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a press conference.

"The remarks are seriously inconsistent with the political commitments the Japanese government has made so far, and their nature and impact are extremely egregious," Lin said, adding that China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposes such remarks, and has made stern representations to Japan.

Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and how to resolve the Taiwan question and achieve national reunification is purely China's internal affair that brooks no external interference, Lin stressed, questioning what message Japan intends to send to "Taiwan independence" forces and what direction it seeks to push China-Japan relations.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China, Lin noted, adding that any attempt by Japan to meddle in Taiwan-related affairs constitutes a trampling on international justice and a serious provocation to the post-war order.

China will and must be reunified, Lin said. "The Chinese people have the will, confidence and capability to defeat all attempts to interfere in and obstruct China's reunification."

China urges Japan to stop its provocation, stop crossing the line, and "not go further down the wrong path," he added.
