The torch for China's 15th National Games and Para Games has set a new benchmark in design and sustainability, according to lead designer He Ye. In an insightful discussion, He highlighted the eco-friendly nature of the innovative 3D printing process utilized in the torch's creation, emphasizing how unique adjustments ensure that the flame remains vibrant, even in the most challenging conditions.
"Because this torch is designed for the National Games, and the production quantity is limited, using traditional methods, such as creating molds and undergoing complex manufacturing processes, would be a waste of resources.," He explained. "So this time, we chose to use 3D printing technology, which allows us to produce only what we need, and avoid the need for customized molds. This makes torch production more resource-efficient and environmentally friendly."
With the torch relay set against the backdrop of Guangdong, where the sun can be particularly intense, special attention was given to ensure the flame remains bright and visible at all times.
"We adjusted the flame and the air-fuel mixture," He noted. "This guarantees that the flame burns with optimal brightness, vivid color and visual appeal. Primarily, during the torch-lighting ceremony, the main torch performed perfectly. And during the relay, we also encountered strong crosswinds and the final segment took place near a waterfall, demonstrating that our torch is resistant to both wind and rain."
