The Mosuo—a branch of the Naxi ethnic group—mainly inhabit the Lugu Lake region in southwest China. In their language, “Mosuo” means “people who come from the sky.” They continue to uphold their unique tradition of “walking marriages” and matrilineal family structure, preserving an ancient wisdom of living in close harmony with nature.
