At least 10 people died and several others were injured in a powerful car explosion near the landmark Red Fort in the Indian capital New Delhi on Monday evening.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the explosion occurred just before 7 p.m. in a slow-moving vehicle near a traffic signal. The cause of the blast is being ascertained.
An eyewitness named Kumar said the explosion left everyone in shock. "I saw around 18 to 20 people injured in front of me. Some were lying inside cars, others were on fire," he said.
The Red Fort, a 17th-century Mughal-era landmark, is one of India's most visited tourist attractions.
