China's Huangshan and 7 more added to 'World Famous Tourism Mountains'

City life can make anyone want to visit the mountains. For urban dwellers seeking that feeling of closeness to the untamed side of nature, this year's International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) Annual Conference has announced the second batch of "World Famous Tourism Mountains." 

Eight majestic mountains were added to the list at the conference, which was held on Tuesday in Guiyang, southwest China's Guizhou Province. Five are in China, Mount Huangshan, Wawu Mountain, Mount Xuefengshan, Mount Danxiashan and Zhangshiyan, with Argentina's Mount Fitz Roy, Saudi Arabia's Soudah Mountain and Russia's Belokurikha Mountain Range completing the list.

At the International Conference of Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports 2024, the IMTA released the "Certification Criteria of World Famous Tourism Mountains." Based on these standards, the alliance designated 14 mountains as the first batch of "World Famous Tourism Mountains," including Switzerland's Jungfrau, Nepal's Annapurna, South Africa's Table Mountain, China's Changbai Mountain, and China's Mount Fanjing.

To date, the IMTA has recognized a total of 22 "World Famous Tourism Mountains" worldwide.

The expansion of the "World Famous Tourism Mountains" roster not only provides guidance for developing high-quality, high-standard mountain tourism destinations worldwide, but also enriches the selection of premium mountain tourism spots.

This initiative offers global travelers more quality destination options, highlights the unique characteristics, core resources and value of these famous mountains, and stimulates their intrinsic potential for sustainable development.
