A Chery SUV attempting to climb Tianmen Mountain's iconic "Stairway to Heaven" on November 12 in Zhangjiajie, Hunan, slipped backward and struck a guardrail in broad daylight.

The following day, carmaker Chery's share price fell sharply, with HK$3.95 billion in market value wiped out in a single day.
