At least nine people were killed and around 30 injured in a massive explosion inside the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, local media reported Saturday.
The blast occurred late Friday while policemen and forensic teams were handling explosive materials brought from Faridabad in Haryana, which were stored at the station as part of an investigation into a recent car bomb explosion in Delhi.
Most of the victims are reported to be policemen and forensic officials examining the seized explosives. The explosion triggered a fire that engulfed the building and several vehicles parked in its compound. Police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
