U.S. President Donald Trump said he plans to take legal action against the BBC after the broadcaster apologized for how Trump's speech on January 6, 2021 was edited in a Panorama program, but declined to offer financial compensation.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump said he would "sue them for anywhere between $1 billion and $5 billion" as early as next week. The BBC stated on Thursday that the edit had unintentionally created "the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action" and confirmed the segment would not be aired again.
