Zhangjiajie: Beyond the 'Hallelujah Mountains'

Welcome to Zhangjiajie, China's famed "Avatar" city – known worldwide for its soaring quartz sandstone pillars wrapped in mist and layered in shades of green. But there is far more to this destination than its cinematic peaks.

As home to China's first national forest park, Zhangjiajie is celebrated for its 3,000 peaks and 800 bodies of water – from springs and streams to lakes, waterfalls and pools. As you wander through the mountains, you may encounter some unexpected "locals," including the golden snub-nosed monkey.
