China's Ministry of Education released an overseas study alert on Sunday, urging students to assess the security risks of studying in Japan and increase their awareness of precautions.

The ministry cited Japan's recently deteriorating public security situation and rising criminal activities targeting Chinese citizens as the reason for the alert.
