Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has urged Japan to keep its promises no matter who is in power. Mao Ning published the content in English and Japanese online, saying, "In the 1972 Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, it is stated in black and white that the Government of Japan recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal Government of China." She continued, saying, "The Government of Japan fully understands and respects the stand of China, and it firmly maintains its stand under Article 8 of the Potsdam Proclamation."
