Driverless, AI-powered race cars lit up Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina circuitas the cityhostedthe second Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL). Eleven teams of engineers competed using single-seater, open-wheeled race cars in a high-speed showcase of robotics, autonomy and artificial intelligence–all without human drivers behind the wheel.
The China-UAE joint "Flying Eagle" team, made up of faculty and students from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and Khalifa University, claimed the runner-up spot in the silver race time trial. The event also featured a dramatic man-versus-machine showdown, with former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat taking on an unmanned, AI-powered car in a 10-lap race.
