Over 50 curly-feathered pelicans have been spotted at the Sanggan River wetland in Datong, Shanxi Province. These are Dalmatian pelicans, a nationally protected first-class species and one of the world's rarest, endangered birds. Famed for their massive size and distinctive appearance, their bills can reach up to 40 centimeters long with an expandable orange pouch.
