A large fire erupted at a decommissioned power plant in Texas on Sunday. Firefighters from several nearby towns worked through the morning to bring the blaze under control.

Local officials issued a safety alert to nearby residents due to thick black plumes of smoke drifting across the area, though no injuries have been reported so far.

Officials said air quality monitoring has so far shown safe levels.
