The China Pavilion side event, themed "Building Beautiful Green and Low-Carbon Cities Together," co-hosted by CGTN of China Media Group (CMG), China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment's Center for Environmental Education and Communications, and other partners, was held Monday in Brazil during the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30). The event brought together more than 100 participants from government, academia, business, international organizations and the media to discuss how innovation and collaboration can accelerate global urban green transitions and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Li Gao, vice minister of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, highlighted China's progress in building low-carbon cities. He noted that more than 70 percent of global carbon emissions come from cities, making urban low-carbon transition essential not only for tackling climate change, but also for improving quality of life and achieving high-quality development. He expressed hope that the event will serve as a new starting point for deeper exchanges and broader cooperation, helping build beautiful, livable and resilient green cities and injecting greater momentum and certainty into global climate governance.

Zhu Boying, head of CMG's Latin America bureau, noted that through storytelling and visual reporting, CGTN aims to showcase a real and vibrant China, call for collective global climate action and strengthen cooperation in ecological and climate governance. He added that CGTN will continue to promote dialogue on green development, broaden international cooperation and offer new insights for cities pursuing sustainable growth.

Michael Adalla, senior programme officer of UNITAR's Division for Prosperity, praised China's achievements in green development, highlighting the fact that China's innovation, green-transition practices and the joint efforts of its government and people during rapid urbanization offer hope for global economic recovery and green transformation. He noted that UNITAR will continue to work with China to advance net-zero urban transitions, green talent development and international collaboration to support global sustainable development.

A CGTN-hosted roundtable further explored how green technology drives low-carbon urban prosperity and climate action, and how public-private partnerships can foster sustainable innovation. Guests also shared success stories from China, Brazil and beyond. One participant commented that CGTN's active role in presenting China's green development practices and sustainability cases helps promote South-South cooperation and global dialogue on climate governance and green development.
