Mount Wutai, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, is home to an extraordinary array of ancient architecture. Recently, Xiantong Temple, the oldest and largest temple on the mountain, has begun a new round of restoration. The temple features an array of wooden, brick-arched, and copper structures. The most distinctive is the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) Beamless Hall, a brick building renowned for its ingenious structural design.
