"Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale" is among the most well-known films themed on the brutal colonial governance of Japan in Taiwan. Adapted from a true story of the Wushe Incident, also known as the Wushe Rebellion, it tells the heroic deeds of a Seediq tribe leader Mona Rudao leading his people to resist Japanese colonial rule. It profoundly exposes the atrocities of Japan in Taiwan, such as resource plundering, forced labor and violent suppression, as well as the tragic experiences of the indigenous people in Taiwan. The blockbuster became a hit when it was screened in Taiwan in 2011 and was nominated for awards at global film festivals, including the 68th Venice International Film Festival.
