A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that China has no choice but to take strong and resolute countermeasures if the Japanese side refuses to withdraw its wrongful remarks regarding China's Taiwan region.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a query on Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks on Taiwan.

Mao reiterated that Takaichi's remarks have fundamentally damaged the political foundation of China-Japan relations and aroused public indignation and condemnation of the Chinese people.

China earnestly urges Japan to retract its erroneous remarks, stop creating trouble on China-related issues, take concrete actions to admit and correct its mistakes, and safeguard the political foundation of China-Japan relations, Mao said.

If Japan refuses to withdraw its remarks and even continues its wrongdoing, China will take strong and resolute countermeasures, and Japan will bear all the consequences arising therefrom, she added.
