A mainland spokesperson said on Wednesday that tens of thousands of complaint emails have been received since an online platform for the public to report vile acts by those advocating "Taiwan independence" and their accomplices in persecuting Taiwan compatriots was launched on the official website of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the office, made the remarks at a press conference.
It fully demonstrates the attitude of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait who hope to severely punish those advocating "Taiwan independence" and their accomplices in persecuting Taiwan compatriots, and reflects the common aspiration of people on both sides of the Strait to resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and advance national reunification, Zhu said.
"We support the relevant departments in basing their actions on facts and adhering to the law, severely cracking down on and holding lifelong accountable for those advocating 'Taiwan independence' and their accomplices in persecuting Taiwan compatriots," she added.
