Tibetan medicine is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine. Developed over centuries of living at high altitudes, it has become a unique healing system. Ethnic Tibetan people facing harsh natural conditions and illnesses have gained knowledge and skills to treat various health issues. In 2006, Tibetan medicine was officially recognized as part of China's national cultural heritage.

CGTN's Nadim Diab visited Gengque Mulan, a renowned Tibetan medicine doctor in Nangqian County, Yushu Prefecture, Qinghai Province. After graduating from university in 2006, he returned to his hometown to serve the community. Besides his daily clinical duties, he often travels to remote pastoral areas to provide free medical consultations to villagers with mobility issues. Gengque Mulan has also taken in local orphans, set up the Yushu Tibetan Medicine Vocational School, and trained professionals in Tibetan medicine. "Our school is a true crystallization of national unity," the doctor said.
