Shanghai became home to China's first pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in September 2013. It was envisioned as a testing ground for reforms – encouraging smoother trade, financial innovation, and serving as a gateway for global business.

Fast-forward just 12 years, 22 FTZs across China cover less than 0.4 percent of the country's land area but account for one-fifth of its foreign investment and trade – a true "high-yield field"! From trial to harvest, the journey of opening up continues.

CGTN's series Path to Prosperity takes you there.
