A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday expressed serious concerns over Japan's accelerated military buildup, warning that any attempt to revive militarism is destined to fail.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked about Japan's first export of Patriot interceptor missiles to the United States after relaxing its arms export controls.
Mao cited post–WWII arrangements that required Japan to be completely disarmed, and noted that Japan's easing of military restrictions, expansion of defense spending and discussions on revising its non-nuclear principles reveal a worrying trend. She stressed that any move by Japan to return to the path of militarism or undermine the postwar international order will not be allowed by the Chinese people or the international community.
