In 1895, after Japanese forces had occupied parts of southern Taiwan, a general who originally came from Suqian in Jiangsu Province, named Yang Sihong, led a fierce counteroffensive. In a series of victories, he succeeded in recapturing several key positions. Sadly, while pursuing the retreating Japanese, General Yang was shot and killed. His sacrifice is a powerful testament to the deep bond and shared destiny linking people across the Taiwan Strait.
