More than 100 firefighters battled a fire aboard a ship at the Port of Los Angeles on Friday night. Hazardous materials were found in several of the cargo bays, and emergency response crews had to don protective gear and breathing equipment. By around 8:27 p.m., all 23 crew members had been led to safety with no injuries reported, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a post on X that authorities are monitoring air quality as fire suppression continues.
