China's camellia town receives eco-income boost
As early winter sets in, Yuping Dong Autonomous County in Guizhou Province – hailed as "China's Tea-Oil Camellia Town" – showcases a striking natural spectacle: delicate tea-oil camellia flowers blooming in harmony with plump ripe fruits on the same branches, attracting visitors from near and far.
With a centuries-old cultivation tradition in China, tea-oil camellia (also known by its scientific name camellia oleifera) has emerged as a key driver in lifting disadvantaged communities out of poverty in recent years. Harnessing technological advancements, Yuping has modernized the industry through mechanized production and innovative product upgrades.
Today, these premium camellia-based products are exported to global markets including France, significantly boosting local residents' incomes. The county has thus carved a sustainable development path centered on tea-oil camellia, seamlessly balancing ecological conservation, industrial prosperity, and improved livelihoods for its people.
